The map this unit comes with is VERY basic! It has only major highways. So right out of the box this unit is useless for any type of navigation, especially outdoors.

Garmin wants you to buy maps from them! Even though you can find them and download some for free, you have to buy software like Mapsource to install those maps!

Now why would you pay this much money for a device that is completely useless out of the box???

A very nice, compact and accurate unit. It is very easy to use and fulfills my needs perfectly.

Not all is completely glowing. For the price, it should come with maps. One more negative, it constantly drains the batteries even when it is off. I would suggest removing the batteries if it will not be used for more than a few days. There is also no way to charge the batteries while they are in the unit. I was aware of this when purchasing, but that is not the way the unit should be. I have read where people have bought the "charger" for this unit because they are unaware of this issue. The "charger" only supplies external power so that the unit can be used instead of the batteries.

Battery issue aside, the display is decent and the functions good. As all Garmin units, the receiver for GPS is excellent and can even be used inside my house or a medium forest canopy. Rating: 4 / 5
